‘Piel de tela, manos de papel: los nuevos amigos de Lola Cueto’ by Wendy Cabrera Rubio
September 19 -October 17, 2026
Piel de tela, manos de papel: los nuevos amigos de Lola Cueto is an artistic and curatorial project that establishes a dialogue between contemporary creation and the work of Dolores Velázquez Rivas, known in art history as Lola Cueto. In this edition, Wendy Cabrera Rubio and other artists take up Cueto’s techniques and strategies, textiles, marionettes, hand puppets (teatro guiñol), petul, and papel picado—to engage with the visual imagery and crafts she practiced. In doing so, contemporary production reactivates the artistic languages of the creator and master textile artist, which were centered on education, healthcare, and recreation in her era. The exhibition thus invites us to revisit Lola Cueto’s work from the present and to position ourselves as an audience capable of building bridges between the post-revolutionary era and the contemporary world.
