Wendy Cabrera Rubio
Wendy Cabrera Rubio is an artist, born in Mexico City (1993), where she still lives and works.
Characterized by a series of crossovers that crosses the boundaries between high and low culture, image and object, narration and action, through textile and theatrical work, or through the historical study of mass culture, especially caricature and animation. Thus, she explores the relationships between aesthetics and ideology present in the mechanisms of production and distribution of images, and her processes involve rewriting, archival review and collaboration with other disciplines. Recurring themes in her work include biotechnology, the resurgence of the ultra-right and the Pan-American project.
Cabrera Rubio studied her Bacherlor’s degree in Fine Arts at La Esmeralda, in Mexico City (2017) and complemented her degree with a diploma in philosphy granted by UNAM. She then took part in the SOMA educational program also in Mexico City (2020). She has received several grants and awards, such as the FONCA Jóvenes Creadores in 2021, the
Jumex Foundation Grant, in 2019 and the William Bullock FEMAM prize in 2018.
